Afrobass – A New Nordic Groove
Afrobass is the brainchild of Norwegian bassist and composer Lars Martin Vik, blending deep West African rhythms with Nordic jazz, desert blues, and soulful improvisation. The band creates an earthy and hypnotic soundscape – rooted in groove, yet open to exploration.
Formed on the Norwegian west coast, Afrobass brings together six musicians from diverse backgrounds in jazz, rock, and world music. The collaboration with guitarist Hedvig Mollestad adds a raw, electric edge to the band’s organic pulse.
In 2025, Afrobass toured the Møre region with great success, bringing their high-energy performances to audiences across Norway. For 2026, the band is preparing to record new material at Ocean Sound Recordings on the island of Giske – a project that aims to capture the vibrant, cinematic sound of Afrobass for a wider international audience.
The project represents a unique meeting of African-inspired rhythm and Nordic sensibility — a dialogue between continents, grooves, and traditions.
